Non-Profit Organization (NPO) of Tokyo. The registered date of its establishment is
November 8th, 2002, the date Dr. kenji iino filed the NPO registration form to the
Shinjuku office of Tokyo Legal Affairs Bureau.
"I wonder what our formal name in English is," says Dr. iino,
"Our formal name in Japanese is pronounced [ TOKUTEI HIEIRI KATUDOU HOUJIN
SHIPPAI GAKKAI ], which means, Corporation that conducts specific activities that is
non-profitable, the Association for the Study of Failure. It took about six months since
we had our first preparation meeting, and 3 round trips from San Jose, California, 3 visits
to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Office, and 2 visits to the Tokyo Legal Affairs
Bureau. I am now an expert on registerting NPO's within Tokyo. In any case, I am happy to
have completed the painful procedure before our first scheduled general assembly on
December 9th."
The first general assembly will start at 10:00am and will have several pronouned invited
speakers as well as a lecture by Dr. Yotaro Hatamura at the end. The assembly will be
followed by a reception in the same Yayoi Hall in the Department of Agriculture, the
University of Tokyo. The formal language of the assembly will be Japanese.
The assembly is admission free to all registered members of the association. The
association will take on-site registration on the day of the assembly. Registration with the
association has a one time fee of 3,000JPY and the annual fiscal year membership is
