ICASF: International Conference of
the Association for the Study of Failure

"Accidents and Safety of
Large-Scale Man-Made Structures"

Invited Speaker: Prof. Henry Petroski

   The Association for the Study of Failure has invited Dr. Henry Petroski, Prof., Duke University, well known for his publication "To Engineer is Human" and many others. He will be speaking at the ICASF, International Conference of the Association for the Study of Failure. The Chairperson of the association, Prof. Yotaro Hatamura will also give a speach that follows his talk at the Winter Annual Conference last year.

   ICASF is scheduled for Nov. 2nd in Tokyo, and Nov. 3rd in Osaka. The second meeting will repeat the contents of the first. ASF will be entering its seventh year of operation and for the first time, two big names from the east and west will meet in this event. Members are encouraged to mark down one of the two dates. General admission will also be allowed.

   Requests to attend the conference by non-members of ASF shall be sent to admin@shippai.org. Please write down your full name and address to mail the admission ticket in your mail.
   If you do not receive a reply from the administration office of ASF, please call +81-90-7809-0079 or send a fax to +81-3-5800-6997. The deadline for such requests is Oct. 15, 2008.

      ¥2,000 JPY for members of the Association

H. Petroski's speach in English will be consequtively translated into Japanese. Y. Hatamura's talk will be translated into English if English speaking audience is present.
